Meet the Team

Chris Shorey (MARLA) Managing Director

Chris Shorey has been involved in the local property industry continuously over the past 35 years. After leaving school and earning his apprenticeship as a Mechanical Engineer in Devonport Dockyard, Chris took a leap of faith into the property profession and has never looked back. From small beginnings from his flat on Plymouth Hoe and with the invaluable help of his parents' book keeping skills, Chris gradually built on his landlord portfolio and in time moved to his first offices on North Road East. Chris has witnessed many changes in the property market over the years and embraced the shift towards student accommodation as the once Plymouth Polytechnic evolved into Plymouth University. As one of the first letting agents to provide student accommodation, Chris has acquired an unrivalled knowledge base of student lettings, proving to be an invaluable skill in what is now an incredibly competitive letting market. The residential letting market is similarly growing and Chris is embracing the challenge of this fluid market and the positive changes that it is bringing. The vast choice of agents available to consumers now is creating higher standards of accommodation across the board and Chris' team are continuously refining their skills as excellent property managers providing higher customer service. Chris' dedication to the property industry and willingness to accept the challenge of competition is a certain reflection of his personal character. An avid trial and enduro bike rider since his childhood, Chris' lifelong and ongoing passion for tough, competitive sport has seen him take part in events nationwide. The notorious Scott Trial of Richmond in Yorkshire has just celebrated its 100th Year with the likes of International Trials champion Dougie Lampkin lining up in the start field with the amateur riders. Chris took part for the 34th time this October, the only rider to have competed in consecutive years since 1980. His hope is to keep on competing for another 34 years and to be the longest standing competitor. As one of the most established letting agents in the city, the goal of longevity is the same. Indeed, underpinning all that Chris does, be it in business or in sport, is the firm belief that commitment to whatever you are doing will bring success.

James Bailey

James has worked for the company for over 6 years and has built up an extensive knowledge of the student investment lettings and sales market in Plymouth. He has a huge passion for property and strives to continually better his knowledge and keep up to date with national and local housing trends, as well as having excellent communication qualities.

Before joining us James was elected as a sabbatical student union president at the local Art College where he campaigned for student welfare as well as manages his own small team. After this he spent time in marketing and promotions which is where his drive and ambition to succeed were fermented.

Born in Bristol, James grew up in the small seaside resort of Brean Sands in Somerset before coming to Plymouth to study for his degree; he soon fell in love with Plymouth and decided to make this amazing city his home. With a great passion for the outdoors James enjoys spending time with his young family, as well as running where he annually enters the Plymouth Half marathon.

Sam Price

Sam is also from an engineering background, having earned a BSc in Marine Engineering with Composite Materials whilst studying at Plymouth University himself. Like James, Sam came to Plymouth to study, and ended up staying on afterwards having moved from his original home in Worcestershire.

After university, Sam worked as a web developer and merchandiser and now uses these skills to enhance our web presence and online marketing effectiveness. Having worked with the company for four years now, Sam's knowledge and experience of local planning and investment sales are invaluable.

Sam is a keen mountain biker, and as such is often seen covered in mud (and more often that he'd like, bandages) on Dartmoor at the weekends.
